About the Family

The Hassall family. Officer Brian Hassall was shot in the line of duty but despite that, he eventually returned to the force and works the night shift because he suffers from migraines triggered by daylight. The only place he can sleep is in their damp, dark basement. Michelle Hassall, battling a blood disorder and now lymphoma cancer, cannot be in the basement for any length of time because her fragile immune system cannot handle any further sickness.

Because of Michelle's 20-year battle with a rare blood disorder, the Hassall's adopted Alex, now an 8 year old girl, and Sam, a special needs 3 year old boy, born in China with a cleft palate. Unfortunately, the medical bills for Sam and Michelle and missed work because of treatment, the Hassall's have maxed out their credit cards and taken a second mortgage on their home. There is nothing left to make their house fit for their family.
